Laboratory-grown diamonds: origin, clearly explained

Real diamonds. A laboratory-created beginning.

A different growth environment

Laboratory-grown diamonds are crystalline carbon in the diamond structure. They have substantially the same chemical composition and physical properties as mined diamonds, but are grown in controlled conditions rather than by geological formation.

CVD and HPHT

Chemical vapor deposition grows diamond from activated carbon-containing gas. High pressure, high temperature growth supports carbon crystallization, typically with a metallic solvent-catalyst. Ask about growth method and subsequent treatments.

The importance of disclosure

Laboratory-grown diamonds must not be described as natural. Specialist testing can identify growth features. Origin alone does not establish environmental performance, ethical sourcing or investment value.
